Philosophy

The staff at East Gresham Grade School is dedicated to providing the students we serve with an education that will prepare them for continuing school success.

We realize that children come to us from varied backgrounds and with differing levels of abilities.  Therefore our goal is to expect individual excellence from each child, while recognizing the differences in learning styles, abilities and family environments.

We believe that all students can learn while understanding that they learn in many different ways and at many different speeds.  Our goal is to provide the best educational environment to meet each child's needs.

2010-2011 Goals:

  • In Math, 50% of students meeting grade level standards in the prior year will make at least a year’s growth and 75% of students who began the year below grade levels standard will make at least 1.25 years’ growth.  Additionally, 70% of all students in all subgroups will meet/exceed grade level standards under the requirements of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) or all groups and subgroups will make sufficient progress to achieve Safe Harbor status under NCLB.
  • In Reading, 50% of students meeting grade level standards in the prior year will make at least a year’s growth and 75% of students who began the year below grade level standards will make at least 1.25 years’ growth.  Additionally, 70% of all students in all subgroups will meet/exceed grade level standards under the requirements of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) or all groups and subgroups will make sufficient progress to achieve Safe Harbor status under NCLB.
  • In Writing, 50% of students meeting grade level standards in the prior year will make at least a year’s growth and 75% of students who began the year below grade level standards will make at least 1.25 years’ growth.  Additionally, 40% of all students in all subgroups will meet/exceed grade level standards under the requirements of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) or all groups and subgroups will make sufficient progress to achieve Safe Harbor status under NCLB.
  • To increase and enhance staff members’ instructional and professional practice to better serve the needs of students at East Gresham Elementary School, through the continued work as a Professional Learning Community.

East Gresham Elementary School is special because we value every student and family.  We strive to meet the needs of each individual student and are helped in doing so by a variety of support services, which are part of our school community.  Additionally, the staff of East Gresham is dedicated to the continuous improvement effort necessary to assure that all students achieve academic success. Through the formation of a Professional Learning Community, teachers and other staff members work collaboratively to identify and implement effective research-based instructional practices. At East Gresham, every student’s success matters, and everyone is dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence.
